fit-pitchin'

I have now lived in Tennessee since 1993. I am now pretty well-versed in the lingo :). My first real phrase was from a sweet Ms. Heather Duncan at KCC. She told me she was "fixin'" to do something. What? Granted, she was from Texas. ;) I also have a friend, Kelly Garrison, who says "spend-me-nights" when referring to sleep-overs. You get used to it. Sometimes you even speak it :). One of my favorites is "pitchin' a fit" or "fit-pitchin'". This is referring to throwing a tantrum.

Let me tell you, right now the devil is fit-pitchin'. We are so very close (days!) from completing our dossier and getting on that waiting list to get our daughter. AND acting in obedience at any cost. AND raising her in her family and to know Christ. He is "freaky mad". (This is from George. He uses "freaky" in place of "very". For example, I often hear "I am freaky tired" :)).

I won't even bother to list all the things that have gone wrong. Between things that have been delayed to things that have broken to physical health to adoption money, we have been through the wringer. BUT, I have got the in... I'm already on the winning team. We can be obedient - "even unto death". And if I wake up tomorrow with all flat tires, 2 sick kids, and a broken fridge, I will not be surprised. I might even laugh. You know how it is when a kid just has that giant tantrum that is so over blown in the store because he wants something he can't have. Everyone stares. He gets all the attention of those watching. It's kind of like that. We see you there buddy. We've got it. You're not happy. I don't care.

And I love how my God works. I have been encouraged today by friends and family. Driving around in my car, listening to old VBS cds, Charlotte says "I bet God is so happy that we worship Him so much in the car!" and "I just really love my Bible". Seriously? And my kids are belting out as loud as they can (with full hand motions), "I'm gonna go, I'm gonna do, I'm gonna tell everybody it's YOU!" and "Be strong, be brave, the Lord your God is with you".

God totally has this. He is in control of IT ALL. The devil owns nothing. He has nothing. He most assuredly does not have my family, but he wants it. So he's doing a little fit-pitchin'.

My brothers and sisters, when you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience. Let your patience show itself perfectly in what you do. Then you will be perfect and complete and will have everything you need. James 1:2-4

But the person who trusts in the Lord will be blessed. The Lord will show him that he can be trusted. He will be strong, like a tree planted near water that sends its roots by a stream. It is not afraid when the days are hot; its leaves are always green. It does not worry in a year when no rain comes; it always produces fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8
